SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE — A North Carolina Air Force base is telling its neighbors that a frantic search for a gunman on the loose is just a practice drill.
Security units at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base near Goldsboro are training Monday for the chance that airmen someday may have to confront a gunman. The 4th Fighter Wing says neighbors can expect increased noise, the sight of emergency response vehicles, and possibly traffic congestion on and near the base.
The active shooter program was created in response to a shooting rampage by an airman at Fairchild Air Force Base in Washington state in 1994 and a similar horror at Virginia Tech in 2007.
