GASTONIA — Police in Gastonia have charged a woman with child neglect after a man called to report a 2-year-old was left inside a car with temperatures hovering around freezing.

An arrest warrant says 39-year-old Sylla Aminata went into a Walmart and left her 2-year-old son locked inside the car for nearly an hour while she went shopping.

The report said the temperature was 34 degrees when an officer found the child Tuesday.

Aminata is free on $10,000 bond. She was assigned to the public defender's office following a court appearance Wednesday. A judge said her next appearance should include an interpreter since Aminata had trouble understanding the court proceedings because she isn't fluent in English.
