FAYETTEVILLE — Authorities in Fayetteville say a 15-year old student at Ramsey Street Alternative School is in custody after bringing a weapon on to campus.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said Monday that school resource officers said the .32-caliber automatic handgun was found inside the pocket of the student's hoodie.

School protocol requires that all students are searched prior to reporting to their assigned classrooms, and their outerwear searched and secured by staff.

Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debbie Tanna said deputies were taking the student to the Cumberland Regional Juvenile Detention Center on a charge of felony weapon on school campus.

Tanna said no injuries were reported.
