RED SPRINGS — Police say a shooting over a domestic dispute left two women dead and the suspected shooter severely beaten in rural Robeson County.

Sheriff Kenneth Sealey said Kendra Matteson called 911 about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday saying her husband, Joseph Matteson, was threatening to shoot her with a handgun.

When deputies arrived at the house outside Red Springs, Joseph Matteson's mother, Donna Matteson, and homeowner, Kathy Bullard, were shot to death. Shot multiple times was Bullard's son, Mark Bullard, whom the sheriff identified as Kendra Matteson's ex-boyfriend.

Witnesses told investigators that 31-year-old Joseph Matteson shot the other three before being severely beaten by Mark Bullard and a family friend after he ran out of ammunition. The sheriff says he ran out of bullets before he could shoot his wife.

Bullard and Matteson are hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
