RALEIGH — There's another campaign finance complaint in the North Carolina governor's race, this time by Republicans who say there is something fishy about refunds from outgoing Gov. Bev Perdue's committee and donations to Walter Dalton's campaign.
The Republican Party said Friday it has asked the N.C. State Board of Elections to examine $99,000 received by Dalton's campaign from individuals who earlier asked for donation refunds from Perdue. Perdue said in January she would not seek re-election.
Spokesmen for the Democrats' two committees call GOP allegations of coordination between the campaigns weak and absurd. Perdue consultant Marc Farinella says Perdue's committee never told anyone seeking a refund what to do with it.
Dalton's campaign filed a complaint this week alleging illegal or missing contributions regarding airplane flights by Republican Pat McCrory's committee.
