RALEIGH — A 15-year veteran of the N.C. General Assembly Police Department has been arrested on a number of sex charges involving children and dating back to 2002.

An arrest report filed with the Wake County Sheriff's Office said 42-year-old Daniel Shawn Evans of Raleigh was arrested at the legislative building Friday. He is being held at the Wake County Detention Center under a $1 million bond. It isn't known if Evans has an attorney.

General Assembly Police Chief Jeff Weaver said the agency has accepted Evans' resignation.

Warrants list two victims, referring to them only by their initials. The arrest report says Evans faces two counts of statutory rape, three counts of taking indecent liberties with a child, three counts of a first-degree sexual offense and one other sex offense.
