FAYETTEVILLE — The city of Fayetteville has barred 13 landlords from renting their properties for one year after they accumulated numerous code violations or failed to register under an inspection program.
The Fayetteville Observer reports most of the no-rent orders were issued this year, but some date to last August. The city has issued four civil penalties to landlords who continued to rent their properties when they weren't supposed to.
After years of debate, the City Council adopted an ordinance in response to neighborhood complaints of landlords neglecting their properties or leasing to bad tenants.
Police spokesman Todd Joyce said the department hasn't had to revoke a rental registration. He said when owners get a warning letter, they usually work with police to make their properties safer and better.
