RALEIGH — Some lawmakers want to give North Carolina private and parochial schools the right for certain employees or school volunteers to carry concealed weapons on school grounds to provide safety.
An N.c. Senate bill filed this week would allow a school's governing body or administrative director to give written approval to someone to carry a firearm, tear gas or stun gun if the person has a concealed weapons permit and is trained. Current law makes it illegal in most situations to bring a gun to any school.
The bill also makes it lawful for the permit holder to bring a weapon on a religious school campus to attend religious services.
A House measure filed Thursday is somewhat similar but applies only to private schools in Forsyth County.
