SWANNANOA — Buncombe County officers believe the body of a man found in the smoldering remains of a Swannanoa home is the same person who was involved earlier in a domestic dispute.

Sheriff's office spokeswoman Natalie Bailey said that sheriff's deputies helped a woman at the home who sought help Friday night. She says someone then fired on deputies, who didn't fire back. The house burst into flames shortly afterward.

Sheriff Van Duncan says the woman who lived there had left the home when the fire began.

Deputies believe they know the name of the man who died. An autopsy will provide a cause of death and a positive identification.
