HARTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Investigators say a man wanted for killing two people this week in a North Carolina home has been shot by officers trying to arrest him in Darlington County.
Authorities say 28-year-old Michael Brown was taken to the hospital, but is expected to survive after the Wednesday morning shooting.
Police say Brown shot and killed 34-year-old Jerron McGirt and 33-year-old Jessica Liriano in their Durham, N.C., home Monday. Investigators say Brown and Liriano used to date.
Authorities say Darlington County deputies and State Law Enforcement Division agents were trying to arrest Brown when he ran away shooting. The officers fired back, hitting Brown. None of the officers were injured.
Florence County deputies will investigate the shooting of the suspect since it involved SLED agents.
