SEAGROVE, N.C. (AP) — Randolph County deputies say a 44-year-old man killed his wife in their Seagrove home, then set it on fire after detectives left.

Authorities said Joseph Grantham was arrested in woods near the home after the fire Friday. He has been charged with murder and fraudulently burning a dwelling.

Investigators said they found 67-year-old Constance Grantham dead when they stopped by around 12:45 a.m. Friday to check on her. Someone had also turned on all the gas on the home's stove.

Detectives spent about seven hours at the home investigating. Shortly after they left, the home caught fire. No one was injured.

Authorities haven't released a motive for the killing or how the victim died.

Joseph Grantham remains in jail. It wasn't known if he had a lawyer.
