WILMINGTON — A 20-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder and attempted arson in the shooting death of a man in his Wilmington home.
Police said Nicholas Bannerman appeared to be robbing 51-year-old Angelo Freeman on Tuesday night when he shot him three times.
Investigators say a neighbor saw Freeman's door open Wednesday morning, then found his body inside. Authorities say the gas stove had been left on in the home.
Bannerman is being held in the New Hanover County jail without bail. It wasn't known if he had a lawyer.
