CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested a man in connection with a 29-year-old cold case involving an apartment fire and a man's death.

A statement from the department said 57-year-old Arthur Blake was arrested Thursday without incident. He is charged with murder and first-degree arson.

On April 26, 1985, police officers responded to an apartment fire. Once the fire was controlled, investigators found the body of Tony Baucom inside the apartment. The investigation by local, state and federal officials failed to identify a suspect.

This March, detectives received information from the Charlotte Fire Department which led them to reopen the investigation. Interviews with witnesses led to Blake's arrest. He is jailed on a $100,000 bond, and records don't indicate whether he has an attorney.
