VASS — A North Carolina woman narrowly escaped serious injury after a log fell off a truck and crashed into the windshield of her car.
Deborah Seitz of Pinehurst was traveling on U.S. 1 Business about 7 p.m. Thursday behind a logging truck driven by Michael Overton of Biscoe.
Vass Police Chief Brian Deel said the 22-year-old truck driver had logs stacked too high. As his rig went under an overpass, one of the logs was knocked off and snapped in two. One of the pieces struck the windshield of Seiltz's car.
The 58-year-old motorist was stuck in the eye by flying glass as her windshield shattered. She was treated and released from a nearby hospital.
Overton was cited for failing to secure his load.
