RALEIGH — A former teacher from New Bern has pleaded guilty to producing child pornography on the Internet.

The Justice Department says 40-year-old Matthew Metcalf pleaded guilty Monday before a federal magistrate in Raleigh.

Metcalf was a fifth-grade teacher at W.J. Gurganus Elementary School in Havelock.

The State Bureau of Investigation and the FBI investigated images seen on YouTube posted by a person who said he was a 14-year-old boy.

Investigators traced the account and searched Metcalf's home last April.

Metcalf is scheduled to be sentenced in July. He faces up to 30 years in prison.

He had been charged with three counts of second-degree exploitation of a minor.
