CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. — A former Marine convicted of killing his girlfriend's estranged husband in Virginia has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Media outlets said a Montgomery County Circuit Court judge sentenced 27-year-old Don Walker II on Tuesday. Walker had pleaded guilty earlier to first-degree murder.

Investigators say Walk broke into 25-year-old Matthew McPeak's Christiansburg home in December 2010, turned off the power and ambushed the victim when he came home. McPeak was stabbed repeatedly with a hunting knife.

McPeak's wife, Danielle Vinese McPeak, received a 40-year sentence in May. She pleaded no contest to first-degree murder.

Investigators say Walker was having a long-distance relationship with Danielle McPeak and she plotted her husband's slaying. Walker was a Marine stationed in North Carolina at the time.
