OCRACOKE ISLAND — The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles says it cannot send its mobile unit to Ocracoke Island this week because of weather conditions.
High winds from a storm have caused shoaling in Hatteras Inlet that has suspended the ferry route to the island.
The agency usually sends the mobile unit to the island once every three months and it was supposed to visit Friday. The next scheduled visit is in April.
The N.C. Ferry Division has added an extra run between Swan Quarter and Ocracoke because the route between Hatteras and Ocracoke is suspended indefinitely.
The DMV mobile unit will be in Swan Quarter on Feb. 14.
The Elizabeth City and Washington DMV offices are open for their regular hours.
