RALEIGH — North Carolina's attorney general is calling on lawmakers and the governor to reconsider recommendations he made more than six years ago that he believes will make schools safer.

N.C. Attorney General Roy Cooper said in a news release Wednesday that he has written new Gov. Pat McCrory to revisit the recommendations made in a school safety study in 2006. They include more school resource officers; a statewide school tip line to report threats anonymously and more training for educators on recognizing potential safety threats.

Cooper said in a news release that schools have put many of the recommendations in place, including routine lockdown drills.

Cooper started the program with the Center for the Prevention of School Violence, which the attorney general says should be re-established.
