LUMBERTON — The city of Lumberton's website has been hacked for more than two hours by someone who said he was a Turkish Muslim.

Lumberton information management director Travis Branch says someone embedded a message on the city's website around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. Branch says he was able to remove it about 1 a.m. Thursday.

Branch said his department is investigating how the message was placed on the site.

Branch said there has been on breach of the safety of personal information. He says there does not appear to have been a virus attached to the message.
