CHARLOTTE— Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have charged a woman in a wreck in which a passenger in her car was killed earlier this month.

The Charlotte Observer reports 22-year-old Lola Porter was charged with driving while impaired and driving while license revoked. When she was released from Carolinas Medical Center on Tuesday, she was charged with felony death by vehicle and reckless driving.

Porter was being held in the Mecklenburg County jail, and records didn't indicate whether she has an attorney.

Police said Porter was driving a 2007 BMW on July 22 when the car approached a curve, went off the road and struck a tree. Investigators said speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

The passenger, 43-year-old Christopher Gerard Turner, was killed in the single-vehicle wreck.
