CHARLOTTE — Charlotte officials are considering paying for improvements at the Carolina Panthers stadium without raising taxes.
The city might be able to fund most of the $125 million request for improvements at Bank of America Stadium by using money earmarked for the convention center.
The city estimates it could fund $110 million of the improvements by using the convention center fund.
State lawmakers would have to approve shifting the money from the convention center to the stadium.
The Panthers last week asked the city for $125 million for improvements to the 17-year-old stadium. The team would spend $250 million and also ask the state for financial help.
But Deputy City Manager Ron Kimble warns there are unfulfilled needs for the convention center.
