RALEIGH — A Brunswick County veterinarian who joined the N.C. Senate in 2011 will become a top leader on the chamber's powerful Finance Committee in the next legislative session.
Republican Senate leader Phil Berger said Thursday he's appointing N.C. Sen. Bill Rabon as one of the committee's co-chairmen, along with current co-chairman Sen. Bob Rucho of Mecklenburg County. Rabon is entering his second Senate term and worked often on transportation issues the past two years.
The finance panel debates tax legislation and how the state collects revenue. The panel is likely to have a key role in any tax overhaul legislation sought by GOP leaders in the next two years.
Rabon would replace current co-chairman Sen. Fletcher Hartsell of Cabarrus County.
