WILMINGTON — The executive director of the N.C. State Ports Authority has stepped down from his position.

Tom Bradshaw took the job as interim chief a year ago and said at the time he promised to stay only for one year. Ports authority spokeswoman Laura Blair said Bradshaw no longer works for the state Department of Transportation.

The 74-year-old Bradshaw was named interim statewide logistics coordinator a year ago at a salary of $150,000. He served as mayor of Raleigh in the early 1970s and later as state transportation secretary.

The authority's deputy executive director, Jeff Miles, will oversee port operations until a permanent director is named.
