SMITHFIELD — An anti-torture group is cleaning up a highway leading to the North Carolina airport that has been home base for a company suspected of flying foreign terror suspects for the CIA to countries that practice torture.

The group Stop Torture Now is cleaning trash Saturday from the road outside the Johnston County Airport, home for Aero Contractors. The company has long been described as supplying planes for the CIA that took detainees to secret prisons and interrogations where they may have been tortured.

Aero Contractors has said only that it does work for the government. The company has leased facilities from the Johnston County Airport for three decades.

Stop Torture Now has committed to collect trash from the road outside the airport under the state's "Adopt-a-Highway" program.
