BRYSON CITY — Five Mars Hill football players are among seven students charged with theft in Bryson City.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reported the players and other Mars Hill students are charged with misdemeanor larceny for an incident Sept. 29.
Investigators say the players were in Bryson City for a party and are accused of stealing beer from a man.
Swain County Sheriff Curtis Cochran said he could not discuss the details because of the ongoing investigation.
The players are 19-year-old Trey Kristen Clark of Asheville; 21-year-old Donald Neal Dwyer Jr., of Lawrenceville, Ga.; 23-year-old Sammy Darrell Siasia of Marietta, Ga.; 20-year-old Johnell Tate Jr., of Orlando, Fla.; and 20-year-old Lamarcus Jamel Thicklin of Townsville.
Mars Hill spokesman Mike Thornhill did not disclose the players' status.
It was unclear if they have lawyers.
