SMITHFIELD — Three men have been arrested in the wounding of a mother and her son at a Smithfield apartment complex.

Police were called Wednesday morning and found a 23-year-old woman and her 8-year-old son had been seriously injured.

Thirty-five-year-old Cornel Breon Harper of Kinston and 28-year-old Sameer Muhammod Edgar of Detroit are charged with firing a gun into an occupied dwelling, inflicting serious injury with a deadly weapon and attempted first-degree murder.

Twenty-two-year-old Mister Premier Height of Kinston was charged with accessory after the fact of firing a gun into an occupied dwelling and accessory after the fact of attempted murder.

It was not clear if the men have lawyers.

Police would not release the victims' names or conditions, other than to say the injuries were serious.
