HIGH POINT — Three family members have drowned in a retention pond in High Point.

Emergency officials said a man, his wife and her daughter, another adult and two other juveniles went to the pond around 3 a.m. Sunday. Five of the six people went into the water, said Police Capt. Mike Kirk.

Police said Kenny Jordon, 30, his wife Heather Jordon, 33, and her 12-year-old daughter Nikki Simpkins drowned.

Emergency officials did not know why the group got into the water. Police said they were awaiting a toxicology report.

Fire Department battalion chief Tim Wright said the water was between 43 and 46 degrees when the family went into the water near their home. The air temperature was about 29 degrees.

Wright says hypothermia would have set in within five minutes.

The other two people who got into the water got out quickly, Kirk said. A teenager called 911.

The woman's body was found about 90 minutes after emergency workers were called. Fire Capt. Denita Lynch said efforts to resuscitate the woman failed.

Kenny Jordon's body also was found Sunday morning.

The young girl's body was not found until about 1 p.m., Lynch said.
