LELAND — Two Leland police officers have resigned after they were involved in a weekend fight in Wilmington.

Twenty-five-year-old Andrew Correll and 25-year-old Brandon Crain had been suspended by the Leland Police Department earlier this week for the fight last Saturday.

The resignations come before an internal investigation was completed. But town manager David Hollis says the investigation will continue.

Three other men also were charged in the fight. It was not clear what sparked the dispute.

Both officers had been hired last year.
