WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH — Two people have been injured after two recreational boats collided off Wrightsville Beach.

The Coast Guard says the accident happened shortly before 2:30 a.m. Friday in Banks Channel.

Authorities say five people were rescued from the water and one of the boats overturned and had to be towed back to shore.

Authorities say everyone in the boats is accounted for. They say the two people taken to the hospital did not appear to have serious injuries.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is investigating what appeared to be a head-on collision.
