FAYETTEVILLE — Two Fayetteville residents are accused by authorities of bilking a couple out of nearly $39,000 by promising to do renovations at their house but never finishing the work.

Arrest warrants show 23-year-old Brittany Hobbs and 37-year-old Christopher Paul Beard are charged with obtaining property by false pretense, failing to work after paid and conspiracy.

Warrants say the two allegedly told the homeowner that Beard was a licensed contractor and could do plumbing, electrical and heating/air conditioning work. The warrants also said Beard performed the work, while Hobbs acted as the on-site supervisor.

The victims paid the bill of $38,813 for the work that was never completed.

Hobbs and Beard were jailed under $10,000 bail apiece. It's not known if either person has an attorney.
