GRANITE FALLS — Two people have died after their motorcycle hit a car in Caldwell County.

The wreck happened after a police chase that started in Blowing Rock late Sunday morning.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol says the chase broke off and then resumed later on U.S. 321 when a sheriff's deputy chased the motorcycle from Lenoir into Hudson.

Investigators say the chase had stopped again when the motorcycle hit the car that pulled out onto the highway near Granite Falls.

The victims were 35-year-old John Franklin of Claremont and 22-year-old Allison Nixon of Conover. They died at the scene.

The driver of the car suffered minor injuries.

No charges have been filed.
