A wintry mix of ice, snow and bitterly cold temperatures covered Edgecombe County over the weekend causing school and government office closures earlier this week.

Tarboro police reported crashes were few over the course of the storm and sub-freezing days that followed.

But as ice continues to melt some roads remain treacherous. Police urge caution especially on Main Street between Hospital Drive and Cantongate Road; Wilson Street west of Western Boulevard; Albemarle Avenue; and sections of Howard Avenue.

Temperatures are expected to climb throughout the week with highs near 70 degrees by Friday.
