The Shawl Ministry of West Haven Presbyterian Church in Rocky Mount recently donated a large number of hats, lap robes, shawls, socks and ball caps to the Hats for Hope program at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
West Haven’s Shawl Ministry has been active for a number of years and has contributed knitted and crocheted hats and scarfs to several schools in our area, shawls and lap robes to a local hospital, blankets and scarfs to Barium Springs, shawls and scarfs to My Sister’s House, as well as ministering to the homebound, sick, new babies and Christmas projects with handmade gifts. All items are blessed before they are given away. This is a ministry of caring and love.
One of the active Shawl Ministry members now resides at Brookdale Retirement Home in Rocky Mount and is unable to get to the church for the ministry’s monthly meeting. The other members decided to hold the meetings at Brookdale at 2 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month so she could continue to meet with us. This has enabled the ministry to share its ministry with some of the other residents of the home and has enriched the ministry greatly.
