Mudcats, MiLB embrace Hispanic culture with name change

The Carolina Mudcats announced Monday that they will play as “Pescados de Carolina” for four games during the upcoming 2019 season as part of Minor League Baseball’s aim to Hispanic heritage and culture,

The new name will come with new game jerseys and hats with a logo that features a sugar skull fish with an aqua, orange, rose and black color scheme. The word ‘pescados’ translates to ‘fish’ in Spanish. 

The first of the four games is May 24 against Down East, with live music and a sugar skull bobblehead giveaway.The next three dates are June 28, July 19 and Aug. 9. Each of the four games will be followed by postgame fireworks.

Carolina’s home opener is Thursday, April 11, against the Wilmington Blue Rocks.
