Two men are facing first-degree murder charges in connection with the death of a woman about six months ago in the Battleboro community.

One of the men already has been accused of brutalizing another woman more than a week ago in Edgecombe County.

Limichael Pittman, 26, and Dewayne Cozart, 31, are charged with the Feb. 13 death of La’Tisha Jasmein Lee, 31, police Sgt. Brad Summerlin told the Telegram on Wednesday.

Cozart was arrested on Aug. 8 in Rocky Mount and Pittman already was being held at the Edgecombe County Detention Center, Summerlin said.

Pittman is jailed without bond at the Bertie County Detention Center and Cozart is jailed without bond at the Nash County Detention Center, Summerlin said.

Police said that on Feb. 13, the Rocky Mount communications center received a phone call from Nash County communications about assisting emergency medical services with an unresponsive female.

Police said that officers went to Drew Hills Court and that a woman was pronounced dead at the scene after she had sustained injuries from an aggravated assault.

The woman’s identity was withheld from the Telegram at the time pending notification of next of kin.

Drew Hills Court is an apartment complex just northeast of the junction of U.S. 301 and N.C. 4.

In Edgecombe County, Pittman is facing kidnapping, assault and firearms-related charges after a woman on Aug. 6 said he held her and her minor children at gunpoint and also attacked her.

Authorities in Edgecombe County said the woman told them she once had been in a romantic relationship with Pittman.

Additionally, Pittman was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.

State Public Safety records show Pittman was convicted in 2009 for committing felony and misdemeanor breaking and entering, larceny over $1,000 and larceny, all in Edgecombe County.

The records also show Pittman was convicted in January 2018 for possession of a firearm by a felon in Edgecombe County.

State Public Safety records show Cozart has an extensive prior record, including having been convicted in 2013 for committing common law robbery in Granville County.

That record dates at least as far back as 2007, when Cozart was convicted for committing assault with a deadly weapon, also in Granville County.

The records state Cozart was convicted in 2009 for committing larceny in Vance County.

The records also state he was convicted in 2010 for committing felony breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and obtaining property by false pretense, all in Durham County.

Also, the records state he was convicted in 2010 for giving fictitious information to a law enforcement officer and in 2012 for committing misdemeanor breaking and entering and larceny, all in Vance County.

The records also state he was convicted in 2017 for committing felony breaking and entering and larceny over $1,000, both in Martin County.
