Murder victim identified

Authorities have identified a man shot dead over the weekend in Rocky Mount.

Daniel Steven Pierce, 22, died at the scene around 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of a convenience store on the 1100 block of Cokey Road.

The shooting death is being classified as a homicide by the Rocky Mount Police Department.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired at the location and found Pierce dead.

The Rocky Mount Police Department is currently investigating leads in the case, said Sgt. Brad Summerlin, the department’s public information officer.
