A Rocky Mount man with a prior criminal record is in custody and another man remains at large in connection with a recent daytime invasion of a woman’s home just southeast of downtown.

Lakeevis Grant, 23, is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony breaking and/or entering and possession of a firearm by a felon, Rocky Mount police Sgt. Brad Summerlin said.

Grant was arrested late Tuesday evening and jailed under a $70,000 secured bond at the Edgecombe County Detention Center, Summerlin said.

Warrants remain out for the arrest of Michael Fields, known as Shaq, on charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony breaking and/or entering, Summerlin said.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:37 p.m. on May 13 in the 100 block of South Discovery Street.

Two suspects, one brandishing a handgun and the other wielding an ax, forced the woman, 58, into her bedroom and demanded cash, Summerlin has said.

After a brief struggle, the suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of money, but the woman was not injured, Summerlin said.

State Public Safety records show Grant was convicted in December 2013 for attempted larceny from a person in Edgecombe County.

Also, the court system’s electronic records show Grant has charges pending against him in another case in Edgecombe County for felony breaking and/or entering, larceny after breaking and/or entering and obtaining property by false pretense.

Also, the court system’s electronic records show Grant has charges pending against him in Edgecombe County for selling or delivering heroin, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver heroin and trafficking in opium or heroin.

The records show Grant has listed two different addresses, one in the 1400 block of Hunter Street, the other in the 1000 block of Westwood Drive.
