A 2008 Honda Accord that was stolen about 10:18 p.m. Monday from the 100 block of Nandina Court has been recovered and a suspect is now in custody.

The incident happened when the owner of the car started the engine and then went back inside her house. She saw someone in the woodline of her property and rushed back to the car to see it being driven away, Rocky Mount police Sgt. Brad Summerlin said.

The car was later located and an investigation led to the arrest of Naseen Pope, 20,  just after midnight, less than two hours after the theft, for speeding to elude arrest. He was apprehended in the stolen vehicle, according to police reports.

Pope has been charged with motor vehicle theft and with resisting, obstructing and delaying a police officer. He was jailed under a $15,000 secured bond in the Nash County Detention Center.
