A Nash County man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of his father.

William Marcellus Major Jr., 22, was arrested, transported to the Nash County Sheriff’s Office and ultimately charged with one count of first-degree murder after Nash County deputies found his father, William Marcellus Major, 51, dead from a gunshot wound.

Deputies initially responded to 7213 Summerlea Place in Rocky Mount in response to an accidental shooting call. However, when they arrived, they found that the incident was a domestic homicide.

No clear motive has been identified as to why William Marcellus Major Jr. allegedly decided to kill his father, Nash County Chief Deputy Brandon Medina said in a press release sent out early Sunday morning.

William Marcellus Major Jr. was fingerprinted, photographed and jailed without bond in the Nash County Detention Center. His first appearance is set for Tuesday in District Court in Nashville.
