Police charge man with murder

A Rocky Mount man is accused of shooting an elderly woman in the head.
Tyquon Marquese Draughn, 21, was charged early Saturday by the Rocky Mount Police Department with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Draughn is accused of shooting 65-year-old Sandra Faye Epps of Rocky Mount.
The Rocky Mount Communications Center received a shot spotter activation at 12:41 a.m. at 1716 Windsor Drive, said Rocky Mount police Sgt. Brad Summerlin.
Police officers responded and located an unresponsive woman at that address.
Epps had been shot in the head, according to emergency communications. She died of her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The Rocky Mount Homicide Unit responded and was able to make an arrest in the case," Summerlin said.
The Rocky Mount Crime Scene Unit responded along with the Rocky Mount Homicide Unit.
Draughn is being held without bond. He has prior convictions for drugs, larceny, communicating threats and assault, according to the state Public Safety Department.
