Deputies shoot, kill man in Bailey

BAILEY — The Nash County Sheriff’s Office reported that three deputies were involved in a fatal shooting early Saturday in Bailey.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours on the 1200 block of Maudis Road in Bailey, Chief Deputy Brandon Medina of the Nash County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement released Saturday morning.

Nash County deputies responded to the scene in response to a call for service involving a male subject, Medina said. During an encounter, shots were fired and the man, identified by family members as Jonathan Ramirez, died at the scene.

At the this point, the incident it being dealt with as an officer-involved shooting. The State Bureau of Investigation has been asked to conduct an investigation into the incident.

“A citizen of our community has lost his life, a family is mourning and our law enforcement agency is deeply saddened as a result of what has happened. Please join us as our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by this tragic incident, Medina said.

The names of the deputies, who have been placed on administrative leave, have not been released.
