Two sought in robbery at ATM

A man was robbed Saturday afternoon as he was waiting in line at an ATM.

The 31-year-old victim was standing in line at an ATM on the 800 block of Harbour West Drive when he he was accosted by two suspects who physically assaulted and removed items from his van including his cell phone and a handgun. He was not robbed of cash as he had not yet reached the ATM.

Several witnesses were at the scene and two suspects have been identified. Warrants have been issued for Donald Ray Alston Jr. and Darcoa McCalop in connection with the incident, said Sgt. Brad Summerlin of the Rocky Mount Police Department. Each suspect faces a charge of common law robbery.

Editor’s Note: The arrest warrant for Darcoa McCalop was recalled by the District Attorney after it was discovered that he was in the Edgecombe County Detention Center at the time of this robbery.
