Cops seek leads in slaying

Rocky Mount police are seeking help from the community in solving the Monday homicide of a 29-year-old man.
The incident occurred about 10 p.m. Monday night in the on the 700 block of West Thomas Street. Rocky Mount police responded to a shooting with injury call and arrived to find a white Ford Focus that had struck a utility pole. A short distance from the vehicle, on the sidewalk, police discovered the body of Tobious Devone Cox, 29, of Rocky Mount.
The Rocky Mount Homicide Unit responded and is following up on leads in the investigation, according to a press release from the city.
This is Rocky Mount’s fourth homicide of the year.
“The Rocky Mount Mount Police Department is always concerned about any acts of violence that occur in our city,” Interim Police Chief George Robinson said. “The police department investigates such incidents diligently and thoroughly. These recent homicides were not random and appear to be unrelated. The victims in these investigations were either targeted or had familiarity with the suspects.”
Robinson also said the department is dedicated to solving these crimes.
“We have made significant progress in these investigations and hope to bring closure to the victims’ loved ones. The Rocky Mount Police Department is dedicated to working tirelessly to take these violent offenders off the streets and out of these communities. We believe these investigations have witnesses who have pertinent information, and we encourage them to come forth.”
