Police capture robbery suspect

Rocky Mount police nabbed a robbery suspect Tuesday, catching him with the cash in the process.

Police responded to a call concerning a robbery about 5:39 p.m. on Tuesday at the Dollar General on the 500 block of East Raleigh Boulevard. The cashier said a man jumped over the counter, grabbed cash from the till and fled the store. No weapon was used in the robbery.

After responding to the call, Rocky Mount police located a suspect behind the store and were able to apprehend him. They also were able to recover the cash, said Sgt. Brad Summerlin of the Rocky Mount Police Department.

Richard James, 35, was arrested and charged with common law robbery in connection with the incident. He was jailed under a $25,000 secured bond in the Edgecombe County Detention Center.
