GREENVILLE — A Rocky Mount man was shot and killed Monday night at an apartment complex in Greenville.

Ralph Boggs, 23, was shot about 9:30 p.m. Monday outside an apartment on Holly Glen Drive, the Greenville Police Department reported. Witnesses told police they heard gunfire and discovered Boggs suffering from a gunshot wound in a parking lot.

He was dead by the time officers arrived, police said.

Boggs recently moved to Greenville from Rocky Mount, police department spokeswoman Kristen Hunter said. Boggs and his killer likely knew each other, she added. Investigators believe the killer was targeting Boggs.

Boggs was known to law enforcement in Rocky Mount, Hunter said. He was shot several weeks ago in Rocky Mount, she said, but details were not available.

Boggs has previous convictions for common law robbery, resisting officer and speeding to elude arrest, all in Nash County, according to state Department of Correction records.

Hunter said the investigation is in the early stages and information is limited.

Police are asking anyone with information about Monday’s shooting to call detectives at 252-329-4300 or CrimeStoppers at 252-758-7777. CrimeStoppers offers up to a $2,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
