Woman charged in domestic assault

A domestic abuse situation escalated Tuesday afternoon when the male victim brought a gun to the Rocky Mount Police Department after wresting it from the hand of his girlfriend.
Cpl. Brad Summerlin of the Rocky Mount police said that both parties were apparently intoxicated about 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon when the altercation occurred on the 1500 block of Country Club Road. Carmela Green El, 51, reportedly pull out a gun and fired a shot during the altercation with her 63-year-old male companion.
The male companion, who was uninjured, then struck the weapon from El’s hand, retrieved it and took it to the police station where El soon followed him. After interviewing both people, police arrested and charged El with domestic assault, discharging a weapon within city limits and discharging a weapon while intoxicated.
