Police seek murder suspect

Rocky Mount police are investigating an early Sunday morning homicide and kidnapping that took place on Leggett Road.

Police responded to a call of a shooting with injury at 2:10 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived at the home on the 2000 block of Leggett Road, they found the victim, Deante Antoine Jefferies, dead at the scene.

Investigating officers learned that a black male suspect had been seen fleeing from the scene of the crime, taking Shenika Arness Shaw, 34, with him against her will. A witness described seeing a dark passenger vehicle leave the scene.

Though the efforts of the Rocky Mount Homicide Unit and other local agencies, Shaw was later found unharmed and was reunited with her family.

The Rocky Mount Homicide Unit is continuing to follow up on leads in the case and the investigation remains ongoing.
