Rocky Mount police have arrested five people in connection with an armed robbery that took place Friday night in the Golden East Mall mall parking lot.
A 32-year-old man and a 17-year-old teen were held up at gunpoint at about 6 p.m. Friday in the parking lot near the food court, Rocky Mount police Cpl. Brad Summerlin said. Multiple people in a car pulled up next to the pair, pulled a gun on them and demanded their valuables. In the course of the incident, they stole cash and a cell phone.
Earlier this week, Rocky Mount police arrested Brian Anthony Strickland, 19; Davon King, 17; Rashaad Ricks, 19; Tyheem Perry, 17; and Nakyra Hill, 26, in connection with the robbery.
Summerlin said that the suspects were charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
The suspects were taken to the Nash County Detention Center, where Strickland was jailed under a $50,000 secured bond; Perry and Hill were each jailed under $20,000 secured bonds; and Hill was jailed under a $300,000 bond.
In addition to these charges, King faces charges of resisting a public officer, possession of marijuana less than a half-ounce, felony possession of a Schedule IV substance, felony possession of a weapon with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule IV substance, carrying a concealed weapon and felony possession of a stolen firearm. King was jailed under a $186,000 secured bond on those charges.
King was also served with outstanding warrants for two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon; conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and an order for arrest for possession of marijuana less than a half-ounce. He was jailed under an additional $350,250 bond for those charges.
The investigation is ongoing and more charges may be filed at a later date, Summerlin said.
