Gunman wounds three during robbery in Castalia

Three people were shot late Tuesday near the intersection of Lancaster Store Road and Pine Street in Castalia.

Three adults were wounded during the shooting, which is believed to be in connection with an armed robbery. One person was transported to Wake Med hospital in Raleigh and two were transported to Nash UNC Health Care, said Brandon Medina, chief deputy of the Nash County Sheriff’s Office. As of presstime, authorities believed the injuries to be non-life-threatening.

The Nash County Sheriff’s Office called in a K-9 unit and helicopter to aid in the search for a suspect identified as a young, light-complexioned black man wearing a white T-shirt. The Rocky Mount Police Department and State Highway Patrol also aided in the search.

As of presstime, the man had not been apprehended. Anyone with Information about the crime should call the Nash County Sheriff’s Office or 911. More details will be released as they become available.
