Rocky Mount police released the name Thursday of a 58-year-old homicide victim whose body was found early Wednesday.
Authorities said John Mack Caudle was found dead at the scene at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday after officers received a suspicious event call in the 400 block of South Church Street. The case is being investigated by the Rocky Mount Homicide Unit.
Officers responding to a call about an aggravated assault on Saturday found 38 year-old Antwon Chisley dead from gunshots wounds on the 100 block of Sullivan Lane.
Rocky Mount police Lt. Ryan Hepler had said the block where the incident occurred comes all the way down to North Church Street. Rocky Mount police Cpl. Brad Summerlin said investigators are still looking into leads in both cases, but he said neither case is connected.
“They’re not related to each other,” he said.
The latest incident is the city’s fourth homicide of the year. The other cases also remain unsolved. Earlier this month, Jamal Rashad Harris, 31, was found by authorities in the roadway in the 600 block of Cleveland Street after officers responded to a shots fired call in the area.
In March, officers responded after a shot spotter activation in the area of the 1600 block of Hargrove Street. Thaddeus Demellon Williams, 35, died at the scene after he was found and officers tried life-saving measures on him.
